- Russian refinery Rafo Onesti will invest €350 million in modernisation projects and in new product portfolios.
- State-owned railway transport company CFR Calatori will invest an estimated €94 million in the aquisition of 500 railway cars and the modernisation of another 700.
- Romanian Ministry of Development will invest €57 million in modernising 80 kilometres of district road in Bacau, Teleorman and Dambovita Counties. The project is financed by European funds.
- Austrian wood products manufacturer Holzindustrie Schweighofer will invest €45 million in the development of three biomass-based power plants, two of which are to be located in Radauti (Suceava County) and Sebes (Alba County).
- Danish company Jantzen Development, operating in the agricultural sector, will invest €40 million in the development of a farm. The investment includes building costs and the plots to be cultivated.
- Italian renewable energy supplier Bardelli Group will invest €10 million in the development of a renewable energy equipment manufacturing unit in Plopeni, Prahova County.
- Swedish construction materials producer Somaco Grup Prefabricate will invest between €8 and 10 million over the next four years in equipment acquisition, automation, modernisation and logistics.
- Belgian retailer Delhaize invested €5 million in the acquisition of four supermarkets in Bucharest which belonged to a Romanian supermarket chain.
- German formwork and scaffolding supplier Hunnebeck will invest €3.8 million in service equipment, renting formwork, and in the development of a new headquarters for its Romanian subsidy in Cluj County.
- Romanian car producer Automobile Dacia invested just under €3 million in designing a crossover concept.
- Greek retail group Marinopoulos will invest €2 million in 2009 in the expansion of its Romanian cosmetics shop network by five units.
Romanian coffee shop chain Turabo will invest an estimated €1 million in 2009 in the development of seven new units, for a total of 50 coffee shops.
Lebanese agricultural foods manufacturer Agroli Group will invest €1 million in the development of a 20 store chain in Bucharest and the surrounding area.
Real Estate
- Romanian real estate developer Green City Construct invested an estimated €30 million in the development of 356 houses in southern Bucharest. The project is set to be completed by October 2009.

- The Romanian government will be granted a €19.95 billion loan by the IMF, the European Union, the World Bank and EBRD, out of which €12.95 billion come from the IMF and should be paid out over two years' time.
- Romanian businessperson Radu Enache will invest between €40 million and €45 million in the development of a conference centre and two hotels in southern Bucharest.
- German retailer Rewe and Romanian retailer Dedeman invested €40 million in the acquisition of a 8.5 ha of land in western Bucharest, where they plan to develop a retail park.
- German do-it-yourself chain Hornbach invested between €20 million and €30 million in the development of a 24,000 m² store in Brasov. The unit, Hornbach’s third in Romania, will be open for business this week. [in fact, I shopped there today for a client in Avant Garden! Not so cheap, but great choice!!]
- Dutch shipyard group Damen will invest €20 million in the development of a producution hall at its shipyard in Galati. The project is set to be completed in 2011.
- German do-it-yourself chain Obi will invest €10 million in the development of two stores in Pitesti (Arges County) and Arad. Both units will be open for business in April.
- National Mineral Coal Company from Petrosani, Hunedoara County, will invest €8.37 million in 2009 in the acquisition of new machinery, environmental issues, mining technology and research projects.
- German private medical service operator Centrul Medical Unirea will invest a total of €8 million in 2009 in the development of six new units (€7 million), three of which will be in Bucharest; and in the acquisition of another unit (€1 million).
- Swedish furniture producer Ecolor invested €3 million in the development of a new production unit at its factory in Jucu, Cluj County.
- Polish door producer and importer Porta Doors will invest €2.5 million in acquiring a production line for adjustable doorframes for its factory in Arad. The equipment will be functional in July – August 2009.
- Dutch medical service provider Euromedic will invest €2 million in the development of its eighth Romanian imaging diagnostics centre in Focsani, Vrancea County.
- Romanian real estate company Landmark Management will invest €1.5 million in 2009 in the rehabilitation of the industrial park in Campulung, Arges County.
- Romanian lingerie and swim suits producer Jolidon will invest an estimated €750,000 in 2009 in the development of 15 new Romanian stores.
- German retailer Rewe will invest €750,000 in the development of its 68th Romanian store in Roman, Neamt County.
- Italian plumbing equipment distributor Romstal invested €650,000 in the expansion of its Romanian network by two stores in Bacau and Calarasi.
- Romanian real estate developers Concept Investment and Real Estate Development will invest an estimated €500 million in the development of a 28.8 ha real estate complex in Iasi.
- American real estate company AIG Lincoln and Romanian investment fund Fabian will invest an estimated €50 million in the development of a 24,000 m² office building in northern Bucharest.
- Israeli real estate developer Gespi Investments will invest €45 million in the development of a 180 unit residential complex in Brasov.
- Romanian construction company Castrum will finalize a €33 million investment in developing a 3,500 m² office building and a 10,300 m² aparthotel (a variable-term apartment complex with the amenities and features of a hotel) in central Bucharest.
- Australian real estate developer Southern Cross will invest €10 million in the development of a residential project comprising 92 houses in Tunari, Ilfov County.
- Irish real estate developer Blackpearl Property invested €10 million in acquiring a commercial centre contract from British investment fund Lewis Charles. The contract includes the development of a mall in Ploiesti, Prahova County, estimated to be a €140 million investment.
- Romanian real estate company Corvinus International invested €9 million in the development of a four-star hotel in central Bucharest. The 95 room unit will be open for business in May 2009.
