Legal & fiscal issues

  • A controversed fiscal initiative will be discussed this week by the Government and the Ministry of Finance. The legislative project implies a minimum profit tax of 0.5% (but not less than ~€1,600) of the turnover (for profit tax payers), a minimum tax of ~€1,600 for microenterprises and no deductibility for car-related expenses.   • State-owned electricity transmission and system operations company Transelectrica will invest €77.4 million in the development of a 400 kV grid around Bucharest, and in an electric interconnection line between southeastern and central Romania.
  • State-owned harbour operator Oil Terminal Constanta will invest between €20 million and €30 million in the development of an ecological project for a warehouse.
  • German hypermarket chain Real invested €21.5 million in the development of its twenty-first Romanian unit, located in Constanta.
  • Romanian construction company Comnord will invest an estimated €10 million in the development of an 80,000 m² logistics park in Buftea, Ilfov County.
  • Italian polyethylene paper producer Tiger will invest an estimated €5 million in 2009 in acquiring new technology for its factory in Dej, Cluj County, in order to increase production capacities.
  • Romanian electro-energetic company EnergoBit invested €1.2 million in 2008 in doubling the production capacity of its factory in Jibou, Salaj County.
  • Turkish bearings manufacturer Rulmenti Barlad will invest €1 million in acquiring new equipment and in certifying its factory as a European railway bearing manufacturer.

Real Estate

  • Israeli real estate developer Plaza Centers will invest €927 million in the development of a mixed project comprising 600,000 m² of commercial and office space, hotels and dwelling units. The project is set for completion in 2013.
  • Austrian investment fund Immoeast will invest an estimated €240 million in the development of a 150,000 m² real estate project in Brasov, which will comprise a hotel, a shopping centre, a business centre and dwelling units.
  • Lebanese businessperson Mohammad Murad will invest €12 million in the development of a 200 room hotel in Otopeni, Ilfov County.

Business

  • Russian refinery Rafo Onesti will invest €350 million in modernisation projects and in new product portfolios.
  • State-owned railway transport company CFR Calatori will invest an estimated €94 million in the aquisition of 500 railway cars and the modernisation of another 700.
  • Romanian Ministry of Development will invest €57 million in modernising 80 kilometres of district road in Bacau, Teleorman and Dambovita Counties. The project is financed by European funds.
  • Austrian wood products manufacturer Holzindustrie Schweighofer will invest €45 million in the development of three biomass-based power plants, two of which are to be located in Radauti (Suceava County) and Sebes (Alba County).
  • Danish company Jantzen Development, operating in the agricultural sector, will invest €40 million in the development of a farm. The investment includes building costs and the plots to be cultivated.
  • Italian renewable energy supplier Bardelli Group will invest €10 million in the development of a renewable energy equipment manufacturing unit in Plopeni, Prahova County.
  • Swedish construction materials producer Somaco Grup Prefabricate will invest between €8 and 10 million over the next four years in equipment acquisition, automation, modernisation and logistics.
  • Belgian retailer Delhaize invested €5 million in the acquisition of four supermarkets in Bucharest which belonged to a Romanian supermarket chain.
  • German formwork and scaffolding supplier Hunnebeck will invest €3.8 million in service equipment, renting formwork, and in the development of a new headquarters for its Romanian subsidy in Cluj County.
  • Romanian car producer Automobile Dacia invested just under €3 million in designing a crossover concept.
  • Greek retail group Marinopoulos will invest €2 million in 2009 in the expansion of its Romanian cosmetics shop network by five units.
    Romanian coffee shop chain Turabo will invest an estimated €1 million in 2009 in the development of seven new units, for a total of 50 coffee shops.
    Lebanese agricultural foods manufacturer Agroli Group will invest €1 million in the development of a 20 store chain in Bucharest and the surrounding area.

Real Estate

  • Romanian real estate developer Green City Construct invested an estimated €30 million in the development of 356 houses in southern Bucharest. The project is set to be completed by October 2009.
